Who we are
This policy describes how WatchNext (“we”, “the Service”) at watchnext.app collects, uses, shares, and may sell information about you. The Service is operated from Lehi, Utah, United States.
Information we collect
- Account data: Your email address when you sign in or create an account.
- Watching data: Shows you add to your library, watch status (watching, caught up, finished, stopped watching), individual episodes marked watched or unwatched, streaming region preferences, and related activity in the app.
- Preferences: Theme, primary streaming platforms, and similar settings stored with your account.
- Alerts & email: New-episode alerts, optional morning digest emails (opt-in on your account page), digest send history, and whether we emailed you about new episodes.
- Push notifications: If you are a Premium subscriber and opt in, we store a browser push subscription to notify you about new episodes.
- Technical data: Your IP address when you sign in (stored on your account as your last sign-in IP, in session records, and in a sign-in history log with timestamps), browser type, and server logs used for security, fraud prevention, and operations.
- Login bot protection (Cloudflare Turnstile): When we enable Turnstile on the sign-in page, your browser loads Cloudflare’s challenge widget. Cloudflare may process technical data under their own policies. When you submit the sign-in form, we receive a short-lived Turnstile response token and verify it with Cloudflare before we email a magic link. If Turnstile is not enabled, this processing does not occur.
- Billing data: If you subscribe to Premium, Stripe processes your payment. We receive subscription status, Stripe customer and subscription IDs, and billing period dates — not your full card number.
Important: We collect detailed information about what you watch and how you use the tracker. By creating an account and using the Service, you acknowledge that we may use this watching data as described below, including selling or licensing it to third parties.
How we use information
- Provide and operate the Service (your library, sync, alerts, email digests).
- Authenticate you, send magic-link emails, and maintain your session.
- Improve the product, fix bugs, and understand aggregate usage patterns.
- Detect abuse, fraud, and security issues.
- Comply with law and enforce our policies.
Sale and sharing of watching data
We may sell, rent, license, or otherwise disclose watching data and related information to third parties. This may include, for example:
- Which shows and genres users track and in what volumes.
- Watch progress and status trends (e.g. caught up vs stopped watching).
- Streaming provider preferences and regional viewing patterns.
- Aggregated or de-identified datasets derived from user activity.
Buyers may use this data for market research, advertising, content analytics, or other commercial purposes. Where required by law (including certain US state privacy laws), you may have the right to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information—contact us using the details below.
We may also share information with service providers who help us run the Service (hosting, email delivery, database, fraud and bot protection such as Cloudflare when we enable Turnstile on login) under contracts that limit their use to providing those services.
Legal bases (where applicable)
If laws such as the UK or EU GDPR apply, we may rely on contract (providing the Service), legitimate interests (security, improvement, analytics, and commercial use of aggregated data where permitted), and legal obligation. Where consent is required, we will ask separately.
Retention
We keep account and watching data while your account is active. Sign-in sessions expire after 30 days; use a new magic link to stay signed in.
Free accounts with no sign-in or other activity for 3 months may be archived automatically during our daily maintenance sync (you will need to sign in again with the same email to restore access). Premium members with an active subscription are exempt. We retain aggregated watch history and show data even after archival to improve recommendations and analytics.
Removing a show from your library may hide it from your view while keeping episodes you marked as watched, so you can add it back later without losing progress.
Some aggregated or previously shared data may remain in forms that are not reversible after deletion.
Your choices & rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal data, or to opt out of certain processing (including sale/sharing where applicable). Use the Do not sell or share toggle on your Account page, or contact us to make a request. You can stop using the Service and request account deletion; some data may remain in backups or in aggregated datasets already shared.
Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13. If you are under 13, do not use the Service. If we learn we collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it.
International transfers
Data is processed in the United States. If you access the Service from elsewhere, your information may be transferred to and processed in the US.
Third-party content
Show metadata and images may come from the TMDB API. TMDB has its own terms and privacy practices. We are not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version and change the “Last updated” date. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
